In April 2024, Julian Caillet, Andreas Herranz, Leo Fourcade and Hugo Monmont moved through the Lyngen Alps on snowshoes with shovels strapped into the day's equipment. Their objective was not an existing terrain park: the four spent a month in northern Norway climbing into the mountains and shaping their own backcountry jumps above the fjords. Caillet had spent years in slopestyle parks and contest lines; in Lyngen, the same freestyle approach had to begin with the approach, the snow surface and the work of building each feature by hand.
At fourteen, Caillet was already riding at Les 7 Laux and had spent two years with GUC Ski Freestyle. That Grenoble-based structure remained attached to his competitive development as he moved into FIS slopestyle and big air. His later federation record identifies France, a 1999 birth year and repeated starts for GUC Grenoble before his club affiliation changed to Ski Club des Deux Alpes. Slopestyle and big air also became the two specialties highlighted by the GUC's high-level athlete programme.
On 22 January 2019, the FIS slopestyle at Vars ran on the 450-metre Snowpark Eyssina in sunshine, with an air temperature of -2°C, hard snow and light wind. Caillet won ahead of Timothé Sivignon and Justin Taylor-Tipton. The same Vars result formed part of a 2018/19 season in which GUC Grenoble recorded him as the overall Coupe de France slopestyle winner, giving his contest period both an individual event victory and the season title.
Young's World moved Caillet from athlete to filmmaker in 2020. He co-directed the project with Andreas Herranz, Titouan Goguillon and Hugo Monmont. The movie followed a young international freeski crew through snowparks in Austria, Quebec, the United States and France, with additional skiing in Andorra and the Netherlands. iF3 identifies it as Caillet's first ski movie as a director, while he also appeared among the athletes.
The same year, Caillet and Monmont shared a dedicated section in 4Westco.'s SPEEDBUMP. The full-length ski-and-snowboard film was directed by Mark Valtr and assembled footage from Canada, the United States and France. Its published music and rider breakdown pairs Caillet and Monmont for one section, giving him a separate film credit outside the French crew that was developing around Mediappiness.
The other selected projects from this period are 2021's S.W.A, produced by Mediappiness; 2022's Bon Diez, also produced by Mediappiness; and 2022's Interlude, the first COMMENCAL Snow Project movie and a High Five Festival selection directed by Jules Bellot.
By 2023, Caillet was part of the COMMENCAL Snow Project alongside riders including Paul Vieuxtemps and Andreas Herranz. The ski programme used athlete feedback while developing new cores, base material and additional sizes in its athlete-oriented models. COMMENCAL's profile placed Caillet between slopestyle and big air contests and video shooting, while identifying him as a member of Mediappiness. That combination joined his competitive park background with a growing part in crew-led film production.
Smash turned that crew model into a backcountry project. Caillet, Herranz, Fourcade and Monmont spent a month in Norway's Lyngen Alps, reaching terrain without motorized access and building freestyle features in the mountains. Hugo Monmont filmed and edited the movie for Mediappiness. Caillet and Herranz skied back-to-back as the features grew larger, while the four athletes formed the complete cast of the crew's first project made entirely around backcountry freestyle.
In June 2026, Caillet helped shape the first Mediappiness Invitational at Les 2 Alpes with Hugo Monmont, Andreas Herranz and Mateo Socquet. The glacier park used rope tows, challenge rails, a rainbow rail and kickers before the gathering moved to a backcountry hip. Roughly twenty invited riders joined the event, with a larger amateur group also taking part. The session linked Caillet's park background with a newer role inside the crew: not only skiing features, but helping create the terrain and event around them.
In June 2026, that first Mediappiness Invitational brought roughly twenty invited riders to the Les 2 Alpes glacier, providing the most recent dated ski activity in Caillet's career.
