Maxence Gumuchian

Born: 2000 | Active: 2013-present | Known for: Young's World, S.W.A and Bon Diez | Current: freeski judge

Rails, jumps and crashes filled Maxence Gumuchian's 2013/14 winter across a succession of Alpine ski areas. A season edit made when he was 13 shows the young French skier moving between park sessions and competitions before returning to Les Deux Alpes for summer training. That early footage fits a career that would later shift away from result sheets and toward collaborative films: first through a generation of French park riders, then inside Hugo Monmont's Mediappiness projects.

La Clusaz 2013: Benjamin Sirerol takes third

Gumuchian's first dated competition marker found in the French Ski Federation results comes from the Critérium Jeunes de Slope Style at La Clusaz on 16 March 2013. Representing CS St Pierre and born in 2000, he finished sixth behind Charles de Beaufort and ahead of Hugo Sorrel. Théo Collomb Patton won, with Théo Panetier second and Benjamin Sirerol third.

Saint-Pierre 2014: Alpine parks fill winter

The following winter produced a four-minute personal edit built from roughly ten Alpine resorts. The accompanying description names rails, jumps, falls and competition days, with Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse connected to the crew around him. Another 2014 edit from the resort lists Gumuchian with Robin Marioti, Valentin Dadot, Lucas Buffin, Tom Guillemin, Benoit Kock, Anthony Grenier and Kenty Claret, mixing park skiing with powder footage from the same season.

Chamrousse 2019: Nathan Pecqueur Col wins

By the 2018/19 season, Gumuchian was representing SC Deux Alpes in international FIS competition. At Chamrousse, he finished 13th in slopestyle, immediately behind Jules Naud and ahead of Ethan Petitniot. Nathan Pecqueur Col won the event ahead of Kaditane Gomis and Alex Remonnay. His French Championship big air at Les Arcs later that spring ended in 16th place.

Hugo Monmont 2020: Young's World travels

Young's World moved Gumuchian into a larger international film cast in 2020. Shot during the 2019/20 winter, the project travelled through snowparks in Austria, Quebec, the United States and France, with additional sessions in Andorra and the Netherlands. Gumuchian shared the athlete list with Matej Svancer, Simo Peltola, Jeremy Pancras, Paul Vieuxtemps and Kaditane Gomis. Hugo Monmont, Julian Caillet, Andreas Herranz and Titouan Goguillon directed the film.

Mediappiness 2021: S.W.A crosses Les Arcs

S.W.A followed in 2021 under the Mediappiness name. Its locations included Les Deux Alpes, Les Arcs, Leysin, Canada, street terrain and all-mountain skiing. Gumuchian joined Julian Caillet, Andreas Herranz, Hugo Monmont, Maxime Vogt, Mirco Ferrari, Melwin Morén, Édouard Therriault and others. The title referenced N.W.A, explicitly connecting the film's ski crew with its interest in rap culture.

Chamrousse 2022: Bon Diez leaves for Austria

Bon Diez began with shots captured at Chamrousse in December before the Mediappiness crew travelled to Austria for the end of the season. Gumuchian skied alongside Andreas Herranz, Julian Caillet, Mateo Socquet, Édouard Therriault, Simo Peltola, Eleonora Ferrari, Maxime Vogt and Hugo Monmont. The project reduced the geographical scale of S.W.A and centred on a travelling group skiing together through the closing part of winter.

Font-Romeu 2025–26: judging replaces bibs

Gumuchian's name later appears on official event sheets in a different role. At the Font-Romeu European Cup slopestyle in January 2025 he served on the judging panel with Hugo Sorrel, Tom Guilding, Antonin Ferrari, Scott Naismith and Nathan Pecqueur Col. During the 2025/26 winter he was again listed as a judge at La Clusaz and Vars, showing a move from his earlier competition and film years into the officiating side of French freeski.
