Mateo Socquet

Hometown: Combloux, France | Active: 2020-present | Known for: Bleu Nuit, Banana Pepper, the Mediappiness Invitational | Disciplines: slopestyle, big air, street style

In June 2026, sunlight reflected off the Les 2 Alpes glacier while Matéo Socquet worked around a summer snowpark with Julian Caillet, Hugo Monmont and Andreas Herranz. Rope tows kept the session moving as soft snow changed the feel of every take-off and landing. Before the invited riders arrived, the four had already spent time shaping the terrain themselves. The scene joined several parts of Socquet's career in one place: slopestyle technique, crew-based filming, event building and the visual approach to skiing that had followed him from Combloux into European freestyle competition.

Combloux and La Clusaz: changing direction

Socquet grew up skiing through the club in his village of Combloux, beginning in alpine skiing before moving toward freestyle. At fifteen he left the local structure to train with the Club des Sports de La Clusaz, where Antoine Rachel became his coach. Socquet later described preferring the homemade bump in a field above home to conventional alpine training. Slopestyle and big air became his main disciplines, while a switch cork 540 was already singled out in 2021 as a favourite trick because of its visual shape.

Sweden 2020/21: building a freestyle base

During the 2020/21 winter, Socquet travelled to Sweden while much of his usual training group remained in France. He trained there while staying in contact with Rachel, using the season to close part of the technical gap created by his late move into freestyle. By the end of 2021 he was targeting the European Cup circuit. That path eventually took him through slopestyle, big air and street-style events, while the visual side of skiing increasingly ran in parallel through film projects.

FASTFOKUS to Aurèle Mayol: four films

Bi-Polar arrived in 2021 under director Damien Vergez and FASTFOKUS. The short film paired Socquet with Alex Remmonay in a fictional story built around two close friends escaping professional routines through freeskiing. Rather than presenting a contest edit, the project used the two skiers as characters inside a narrative format.

Bleu Nuit followed in 2023 with Aurèle Mayol directing and Socquet skiing opposite classical dancer Amélie Vital. Filmed in France and Finland, the short connected freestyle movement with dance and treated the body, rhythm and image as its subject. It entered the High Five Festival programme and won Best Professional Short at the 2023 Skimetraje festival.

Banana Pepper extended the collaboration with Mayol in 2025. Socquet was the sole athlete in the six-minute film, where clothing and equipment were treated as active elements shaping the skier's movement. The project entered the iF3 film guide and the Gérardmer Aventure Film Festival programme, keeping the focus on visual experimentation rather than competition footage.

The remaining selected project is 2022's Bon Diez, directed by Hugo Monmont and produced by Mediappiness. Filmed in France and Austria after early sessions at Chamrousse, it placed Socquet inside a larger international park crew.

Combloux 2024: returning to European Cup

In autumn 2024, Socquet joined Combloux's athlete programme while continuing on the European Cup circuit. His FIS seasons included slopestyle, big air and a street-style rail event, and the municipality formalised a sports partnership with him in 2025. The same period kept video work close to competition, with Combloux presenting him as an athlete who combined European-level freestyle with film projects tied to his home territory.

Megève 2026: freestyle becomes event work

By March 2026, Socquet had also moved into event work. He created an events business focused on presenting and commentating freestyle sports, and at Back to Back in Megève he helped imagine and shape the modules before riding them. The role gave his emphasis on aesthetics a different outlet: explaining freestyle to spectators while remaining involved in how the terrain itself was designed.

Les 2 Alpes 2026: shaping Mediappiness

At the first Mediappiness Invitational in June 2026, Socquet joined Caillet, Monmont and Herranz as one of the four shapers at Les 2 Alpes. The setup included challenge rails, a rainbow rail and kickers before the session moved to a separate hip. Around twenty invited riders joined nearly one hundred amateurs, turning a crew project into a public freeski gathering.

In June 2026, that first Mediappiness Invitational brought roughly twenty invited riders and nearly one hundred amateurs to Les 2 Alpes, the latest dated ski activity in Socquet's career.
