Silver Mountain Resort Ski Review | Kellogg, Idaho | Skiing & Snowboarding in North Idaho
Welcome to our full Silver Mountain Resort review in Kellogg, Idaho — one of the Northwest’s most unique ski resorts and a hidden gem for skiing and snowboarding. In this video, we explore the terrain, snow conditions, mountain layout, and overall experience for both skiers and snowboarders looking for their next mountain adventure.
Silver Mountain’s history is deeply tied to the identity of Idaho’s historic Silver Valley. The mountain originally opened in 1967 as Jackass Ski Bowl, named after a local mining-era burro that became part of regional folklore. After operating as Silverhorn, the resort was redeveloped and reopened as Silver Mountain Resort in 1990 during efforts to diversify the local economy after mining declined.
One of the most distinctive features of Silver Mountain is its famous gondola. Installed as part of the resort’s redevelopment, the gondola was designed to help promote ski tourism and bring new economic activity into the Silver Valley region. Instead of traditional base-area parking at the mountain, visitors begin their ski and snowboard experience in downtown Kellogg and ride one of the world’s longest gondolas directly to the mountain village. The gondola became a signature attraction and helped establish Silver Mountain as a destination for skiing, snowboarding, and year-round mountain tourism.
Today, Silver Mountain continues attracting visitors with diverse ski terrain, scenic mountain views, quality snowboarding, and a laid-back atmosphere that stands apart from larger destination resorts. Whether you enjoy carving groomers, chasing powder days, improving your skiing, or exploring new terrain on a snowboard, Silver Mountain offers an authentic Idaho mountain experience.
