Freerando is a French term blending freeride and ski touring: you climb under your own power (skins, lightweight touring gear) to reach natural, untracked terrain, then ski it like a freerider. Setups balance uphill efficiency with downhill performance—hybrid boots/bindings, mid-fat to fat skis, and safety gear (beacon, shovel, probe; often an airbag). Routes may use lifts for part of the ascent (“lift-assisted”) or be fully human-powered. The draw is creative lines and powder with fewer crowds, but it demands avalanche education, partners, and careful terrain choices.
